Okotoks Public Library

People from various walks of life, will volunteer their time as “books.” Members of the public will have a chance to “check out” a “book” and ask questions to learn about the person and their extraordinary life.

The Human Library is a concept birthed in Denmark in 2000 and is now organised all over the world. In a Human Library, real people are on loan to readers, giving readers the opportunity to listen to their stories first-hand.

Human Library Dayis hosted by local libraries and media and cultural centres across the country, in an effort to help dispel myths and stereotypes, by creating an opportunity for one-on-one conversations between people who may never have met otherwise. The hope is to break down social barriers by providing a safe platform for individuals to challenge the stereotypes and prejudices that they may have.

If you would like to be part of our Human Library, as a Human Book, or know anyone who would be interested, in participating, please contact Paula Benson at pbenson@okotokslibrary.ca 403-938-2220.
