The On the Edge Concert Series at Red Deer Lake United Church is pleased to welcome soulful singer/percussionist Shannon Gaye and Bulgarian pianist extraordinaire Kristian Alexandrov. This Vancouver-based duo present R.E.S.P.E.C.T., an inspired program celebrating women of soul, rhythm & blues. Paying homage to trailblazing female artists, the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. show features tunes by classic icons like Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, and Etta James as well as contemporary artists such as Alicia Keys, Adele and Amy Winehouse.
Music critics describe Shannon as “the slender singer with the big, soulful voice – the kind that knocks you for a loop.” Shannon cuts a powerful presence on stage; from the most delicate melodies to sky high, roof-raising licks, she is in full command of her voice. She has released six original CDs and a number of her songs have been featured in TV series and films in Canada, the US and the UK.
Kristian Alexandrov is the musical director for their stellar high-energy five-piece band with horns, featuring some of Canada’s finest musicians. Onstage Kristian has worked alongside some tremendous Canadian and international artists, including kd Lang, Randy Brecker, The Canadian Tenors, All Star Brass and Order of Canada Big Band. Kristian has been a musical director for acclaimed trumpeter Jens Lindemann, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and the Youth Singers of Calgary. He is also a frequent pianist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
