Colour Mixing for every Medium with Sharon Lynn Williams

Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 10:00AM

Leighton Art Centre

May 4-5, 2019 10 am - 4 pm both days

Learn how to reliably and repeatedly mix the colours you need for your painting, using only 6 colours (plus black and white in opaque media). The method is called a Double Primary Mixing System, and it works like MAGIC! We will be using watercolour for this course due to its ease of use, easy rinsing of brushes, and the fact that it doesn’t dry out. The colours and method used, however, apply to ALL WET MEDIA. You will learn the 3 critical components of a colour and how to assess what colours to combine to create that colour, without leaving it to chance. You will make some 'colour runs' and your very own colour wheel. You will then reproduce part of a full colour photo, putting all that new knowledge into practice. At the end of two days, you can head home feeling confident of your ability to mix ANY colour you might need in your art practice. This class is for painters of all levels of experience and in all media. Handouts will be provided.

Artist/Instructor/Guide

Sharon Lynn Williams has been happily exploring mixed water media for over 35 years, and her mantra is “What would happen if…” The excitement of working from chaos to order is invigorating and creates a dialogue between the work and the artist. Sharon enjoys working with bold colour, line and texture. Her work is informed by the landscapes that she paints en plein air in oil, her passion for gardening and love of the human figure. Sharon's interpretations of the beauty around her, as well as her vivid imagination make for an eclectic and varied body of work. Visit her website at http://www.sharonlynnwilliams.com/.
