About John:
John Rutherford is a singer/songwriter and bluesman based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His work, laced with the tonality, phrasing and spirit of the blues, fuses a broad and eclectic range of influences creating a sound distinctly his own. Amidst a long and storied career Rutherford has performed and recorded with numerous bands and artists including The Highwater Jug Band, The Hoodoo Sons, The Ronnie Hayward Band, Front Porch Roots Revue and John Wort Hannam to name a few. A long association and a stint as a member of the house band during the blues heyday of Calgary’s now legendary King Edward Hotel provided John with the opportunity to meet, learn from and perform with many of the great blues legends of our time.

Rutherford’s solo recording called Echo Broadcast pulls together the various strands of his musical experience and artistic vision. His recent work skillfully dove tails a roots/blues/folk/rock vibe with an imaginative and modern songwriters take on the stories, legends, vintage instruments and the soul and feel of the blues. While constantly creating and contributing to a variety of projects Rutherfordʼs solo career has flourished in recent years touring nationally and throughout Alberta with his CD, Echo Broadcast charting across Canada and reaching #1 on the CKUA Radio Network.

Rutherford reveals his latest musical incarnation as front man for a tight, sharp-witted, jumpin’’ little band...The Big Blues Trio!

With cohorts Erik Allen (drums) and Aaron Scholpp (bass and upright bass) Rutherford and his “partners in time” drum up a reverent, soulful, juke joint blues vibe.
